Installation keeps failing because - "The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install"

Installation keeps failing because - "The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install". It's the first time this has happened to me and only occurs when trying to install this specific driver.


This question has been asked before in late October of last year but there are no replies to the thread. You can see it here.


Its now being asked a year later by a different person. Does anyone have any solutions?


I'm trying to install a driver for a MIDI keyboard. I should add that the driver only claims to work up to OS 10.8.5 and my MacBook Pro is running OS 10.11.5 however I don't think this is the issue as the installer also runs "a program to determine whether the software can be installed" and I get past that stage fine, implying that the driver can be installed on my computer.

Unfortunately, the check the Installer performs at the beginning of the software really only checks for any explicit rules for minimum requirements. It doesn't run any actual compatibility tests to determine whether or not that software can successfully run, or even install, on your machine.


That being said, I found this in the installer log:


"PackageKit: invalid package /Volumes/M-Audio USB MIDI Support 3.4.0/M-Audio USB MIDI Support.pkg has no bundle identifier"


Best option: Contact the developers for an updated or alternative driver for you to use.

Alternative option: Extract the contents of the package and attempt to install the driver manually. This could work flawlessly, or it could cause you to pull your hair out endlessly. I personally wouldn't recommend it since it may impact system stability.

Thank you for your explained response I appreciate that.


I don't know how to manually install software but am quite good with computers so could learn. That said I don't want to mess up my computer, so is it difficult?


Meanwhile I'll try contacting M-Audio again. They're quite hard to contact as you need a special code that apparently comes with all of their products before you can contact their customer support. Obviously I however don't have that as I didn't buy the keyboard and my step-brother who did, doesn't have the piece of paper with the code on anymore.

Indeed, M-Audio have no drivers for the Keystation 49 for El Capitan. However, they do say that it's class-compliant (doesn't require drivers). I read elsewhere that the really old Keystation 49 series did require drivers, however perhaps the person who wrote that was wrong or alternatively perhaps they're talking about a different product to the one M-Audio are talking about on their site. Anyway, that's a bit of a digression because more usefully I've found this:

Which is a trouble-shooting page for M-Audio class-compliant products.


Right now I don't know whether or not my Keystation 49 is class-compliant - I've heard conflicting information about this and I don't know who to believe. Seen as I can't seem to get a driver for it, I'm just going to try solving it as if it were class-compliant... because maybe it is.

I'll let you know if I have any success... and thank you as always for your help.
